Final video is to be submitted in digital format:

▪ Screen Resolution 1080p(Full HD), 16:9(Wide Screen)
▪ Frame Rate 24/25fps

During week 9, we had a class activity to edit a VFX video to prepare us for the final project:

We were required to group up in a pair, I grouped up with Chang Wing and we were to draw a tarot reading provided by Mr Martin to determine our topic. We got "The Star: What is going against you"

For week 10, we did a trial shoot and VFX edit of our selected VFX for our final project. Video is edited by Chang Wing. Below is the edited video:

Video Shooting Behind the Scenes

We decided on 2 locations to do the video shooting, a classroom and washroom at night to enhance the spooky effect. Below are the behind the scenes of our video shooting:

Video Editing Process

I was in charge of the acting and the SFX for this video project. I started by doing the voiceovers for the whispers and demonic voice.

Next, I imported the whisper recordings into Adobe Audition, layered all the audios to make it sound like a lot of whispers all at once and applied Reverb for the echo effect as taught in Project 1 Audio Shaping.

After completing the whispers, I imported the audio for the demonic voice then applied Pitch Shifter, I applied the Stretch and The Dark Lord presets. I played around and explored to find a suitable effect I want while adjusting the SFX.

I imported the edited audios and selected SFX for the videos into Adobe Premiere Pro as some clips need more detailed SFX in my opinion. This was done after Chang Wing edited the video, you may check her process HERE.

Some audios happen right when the clip starts which made certain clips feel unnatural, so I applied Constant Gain to let the audio slowly fade in and out.

We both reviewed the editing video and I thought that it was a little too dark so I suggest by adding another adjustment layer to adjusting the tint to a slightly greenish tone, brighten and increase the exposure of the video clips. The overall greenish and bluish tone is to enhance the feeling of uncanny and unease feeling of the video.

I added captions and make sure they are placed appropriately by using the Safe Margins feature in Premiere Pro.

Lastly, I added Dip to Black at the end of the video because it felt a little weird without it. I think it has more feeling when added.

FEEDBACK

Week 10 (23/6/2025)

Feedback: Can include 1-3 VFX in the final video. Tokyo ghoul eye VFX is cool.

Week 11 (30/6/2025)

Feedback: Mr Martin said to research about our tarot card so that our story relates to it. We showed him our proposal after researching and he approved. He also mentioned that editing might need to brighten the videos because filming at night might result in darker outcome.

Week 14 (23/7/2025)

Feedback: We showed Mr Martin our trimmed video and he said okay. Minor voiceovers are fine.

REFLECTION

Task 3 was a very fun and memorable experience for me because I got the chance to work on a cinematic video based on a tarot card theme. I really enjoyed the brainstorming process for this project, as it allowed me to think creatively without too many limitations. Normally there are a lot of restrictions in assignments, so it was refreshing to have more freedom to experiment with ideas and storytelling.

I am grateful to have been grouped with my peer for this project. Through this task, I not only explored different aspects of video production but also learned how to do VFX for the very first time during class activities to prepare us for this final project. I'm not confident in working on the VFX but thanks to my group mate, Chang Wing, we were satisfied with our final outcome. This experience made me appreciate how important teamwork is as we contributed in our own way to complete this final project.

Overall, I had a great time throughout the whole process, from brainstorming ideas, setting up and shooting to editing and finalising the video. This task gave me valuable exposure to video and sound production as it balanced everything: creative thinking, cinematography, editing and post production effects. It was a rewarding experience that allowed me to express creativity and learn new skills.
