REFLECTION
Experiences
Throughout this module, I found it both interesting and challenging due to my personal skills. While I had some prior experience with Adobe Illustrator, I still encountered difficulties with certain tools and had to rely on external resources for guidance. Each project introduced new learning experiences to me such as character design, typography manipulation, storytelling through composition, and integrating surrealism into a webcomic. One of the challenges were I noticed that my biggest struggles were with background design and colour application. Although Adobe Colour helped me out a lot, I still found my colour choices to be somewhat off because working with colours and backgrounds was difficult since I'm more used to monochrome designs and still trying to improve them. Despite the challenges, I enjoyed the creative aspects of these tasks as I got to create different types of artworks from the assignment briefs provided.
Observations
I observed that storytelling through illustrations requires strong compositions and smooth transitions, which I initially found challenging. As someone who loves looking at artworks, I also noticed my peers’ artworks and they all had different ideation and art styles from their perspectives, which were very fascinating. Seeing the diversity in their creative approaches inspired me and gave me new insights into how ideas can be interpreted visually in unique ways. Additionally, I realised the importance of research and feedback. The insights I gained from references, books like Framed Ink, artworks from different artists and my lecturer's feedback played a crucial role in improving my designs.
