REFLECTION

Experience

Across Project 1, 2 and 3, I had the opportunity to explore many aspects of video and sound production. Project 1 introduced me to audio dubbing and sound shaping, where I learned how to record and layer voices with effects to make scenes come alive, also editing my voice into different type of voices. In Project 2, I was able to work as the DOP (Director of Photography) during the production shoot, which gave me hands on experience with cinematography, as well as colour correction and colour grading during post production. The final project was the most memorable because I had the chance to work on a cinematic video based on a tarot card concept. The creative freedom of brainstorming ideas without too many limitations was refreshing, and I also learned how to do VFX for the first time.

The class exercises and practical activities throughout the module were especially useful because they allowed me to experiment with video shooting, audio editing, colour grading/correction and VFX before applying these techniques in my projects.

Observations

Through these projects and class activities, I noticed how much effort and detail goes into creating videos, from sound effects to colour grading/correction and VFX. I also observed that each class activity helped me with my understanding step by step which made it easier to handle the final project. Another thing I enjoyed was watching my classmates’ work, I liked seeing different creative directions and concepts that everyone came up with, even when given the same brief.

Findings

From these experiences, I discovered that small details such as sound effects and colour tones can improve how a video feels. I also learned that teamwork is crucial in production as everyone’s different strengths can contribute to a better final outcome. Overall, I found this module fun because it balanced creativity and technical skills. I am thankful to Mr. Martin for making the classes interesting and exciting, especially with the hands on class activities. The skills I gained will help me in improving my future projects in video and sound production.
