Project 1: Collage and Digital Imaging [20%]
Figure 1.2 Digital Collage (23/10/2024)
Reflection
Project 1A was a valuable learning experience, the physical and digital collage design provided a great exposure to Adobe Photoshop. I explored various tools and techniques, experimenting with colors, filters, and more during class tutorials and practicals. The physical collage design, in particular, brought back memories of arts and crafts class in high school and I had lots of fun creating it. I also enjoyed seeing my friends' collages and observing the different aesthetics, concepts, and perspectives they brought to their work. It was interesting to see how each person worked on the assignment with their unique vision. I remember my friend explaining her design concept to me and it had a deep meaning to it.
Project 1B was something different, there were 2 exercises. The 1st exercise, we were introduced to digital imaging, specifically using Photoshop to edit elements into a background and make them look like they belong in that environment. The 2nd exercise involved recoloring black and white portrait photographs using Photoshop, which I found particularly special. I really enjoyed this process, and I believe I’ll be able to apply these skills to my future works.
Overall, the balance of physical and digital work made the project enjoyable and well-rounded. Additionally, I learned the importance of composition in artworks, as good composition is a key to capturing the viewer’s attention and creating impactful designs. Project 1A and 1B gave me the opportunity to explore graphic design elements from printed materials, cutting them out then developing them into a new composition and exploring colours to apply in monochrome works which made the experience even more enjoyable.

Figure 2.3 Final Poster Design (27/11/2024)
Reflection
In Project 2A, I learned how to create double exposure artworks and explore new tools in Adobe Photoshop. This experience made me realise that each double exposure artwork tells a unique story through the elements it incorporates.
Project 2B was an interesting experience, as I designed a poster with the theme "Quote of the Day", it is a combined assignment with the Illustration and Visual Narrative module. Developing suitable aesthetics and a cohesive concept was challenging, as it required blending typography and photography elements into a balanced composition, most importantly ensuring both do not overpower each other. However, with the limited feedback available during the process, I found it challenging to refine my design effectively. Despite the ups and downs, I am satisfied with my results and the overall experience.

TITLE: Dreamscape
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Dreamscape reflects my journey into a realm of imagination, curiosity and exploration. Combining surreal elements and vibrant colors, it symbolises the boundless nature of mind wanderlust. Through this composition, I hope to inspire wonder and encourage viewers to embrace the extraordinary possibilities of dreaming and imagining.
1) The figure (myself): Represents my neutral expression, symbolising me going about my day. To convey deeper emotions, I added gradients and colors associated with feelings, blue for sadness, orange for anger and pink for happiness to show the complexity within a seemingly neutral state.
2) Smaller photograph of myself (bottom left): Symbolises me walking on my journey.
3) Flowers: Representing an open mind blossoming with new ideas and perspectives, also reflect a sense of discovery and the beauty of exploring the unknown.
4) Building: Represents the starting point of exploration and the curiosity to reach greater heights.
5) Bubbles: Depicts the moments and transitions in my journey by capturing the idea of moving forward and navigating through the unknown, one step at a time.
6) Fishes: To symbolise curiosity and the desire to explore the wonders of the world, much like them swimming through the vast and mysterious sea. Their inclusion adds a dreamlike quality and enhances the theme of discovering the unknown.
7) Hearts: Represent the complex mix of emotions and imaginations I experienced.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Dreamscape is an artwork and visual representation of where my mind often wanders to a realm inspired by curiosity, wanderlust and the desire to explore the unknown. I want to depict the word "dreamscape" as a journey into a world of undiscovered wonders, mysteries and stories that spark my imagination.
The concept of Dreamscape incorporates a dreamlike aesthetic and surrealism by utilising random elements to symbolise mind wanderlust. I experimented with filters and adjustments to transform the colours of my photograph to further enhance the meaning of dreamscape and mind wanderlust.
Through this work, I hope to convey the complexity of emotions and imaginations experienced when one lets their mind roam freely. My aim is for viewers to experience wonder, curiosity, and exploring on the limitless possibilities of dreaming and imagining. Dreamscape lets the mind to journey beyond the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Working on our final project which is a self titled video combined with subtle animations of elements from the created composition, I had an interesting experience and big exposure in animation. We were to come up with a concept/backstory using elements and photographs of ourselves to turn into a composition then animate it.
My concept for my artwork is dreamy and surreal. Initially, it was challenging to develop a concept, so I gathered inspiration from Pinterest then saving several examples to my DPI board. I then compared these samples to decide a final concept. While working on this project, I also searched for suitable images to build my composition and create a more detailed artwork that effectively conveys my concept.
Moreover, ever since the after effects exercise during practical class, I have gotten more familiar with using Adobe After Effects and I surprisingly had fun while exploring new tools animating my composition because I was very clueless at first. Mr Fauzi's feedback to my composition also helped me a lot throughout this project. Overall, I think this is a beneficial experience and a good start in the first semester, I will continue utilising the skills I acquired on future projects.
